Arsenal’s new French born striker is known for his size, physical style of play and heading ability. Giroud made his name during his two year spell at Montepiller, between 2020 and 2012, netting 33 goals in 71 appearances. previously, Giroud plied his trade at Grenoble and Tours respectively.
In 2011/12, Giroud led Montepiller to the Ligue 1 Championship, getting himself into the Ligue 1 Team of The Year in the process. He scored 21 goals in 36 league appearances for the French champions, making him the league’s joint top goalscorer. Not bad.
25 years old and standing at 6″4, Olivier Giroud has superb ability in the air, but is also a great left footed finisher. Despite his recent rise to glory, Giroud is relatively young, and doesn’t posses a huge amount of experience in terms of Champions League Football, or indeed top flight divisions in general. However, his performances last season are promising for Arsenal fans.
He arrived at Arsenal on June 1st 2012, just after the Euro 2012 tournament, where he represented France, after breaking into the national side during a November 2011 game versus Belgium. With rumours of Robin Van Persie leaving the club, Arsenal were looking for a striker to ease the pain.
